On Sunday 20 March, The Lads, Team 8346A from St Helena School, participated in a regional robotics tournament held at Presdales School in Hertfordshire. Scores were improved across the board!
Let’s cast our minds back to the previous weekend - Damian travelled to Greig City Academy in London and finished as a quarter finalist in the tournament and fifth in the Robot Skills Challenge.
This time around, 8346A finished in the top three for the Robot Skills Challenge, climbing two places. And as for the elimination tournament, well, The Lads were grand finalists, taking part in an epic final match - it was the highest scoring game in the UK this season.
This event was the perfect opportunity for us to hone our skills and strategies and build upon our previous successes; we managed just that and received the Excellence Award in recognition at the event.
The Excellence Award encompasses everything relevant to the Design Award, which The Lads have been able to win twice consecutively, but also considers performance on the field in the tournament and Robot Skills Challenge.
Therefore, it is the most prestigious award presented in the VEX Robotics Competition. Not only does the recipient have to demonstrate comprehensive robot construction, programming, and strategy documentation, but they also have to be strong contenders on the field.
This is incredibly motivating for us, and we can’t wait to compete once more this coming weekend (26/03) at John Warner School in Hertfordshire. We’ll be trying to match our performance and will be working on our consistency.
