Just one week after winning the Design Award at Haberdashers’ Boys’ School and qualifying for VEX Worlds, The Lads have done it again. This time it was Damian who travelled to North London for the VEX Robotics Competition event (12/03) at Greig City Academy.
He started his day early, making his way to the school for an 8 o’ clock competition start. He played eight matches throughout the day and also participated in the Robot Skills Challenge.
The latter garnered quite a bit of success, as The Lads finished in 5th out of the 24 teams who took part in the competition. Damian scored a combined total of 220 from the driver skills and programming skills challenges.
At the end of the day was the elimination bracket, whereby teams pair up to play a series of best-of-one matches leading to a final best-of-three showdown. The Lads were able to finish as quarter finalists in the bracket.
An unfortunate technical mishap lead to the loss, but we’ve already identified the issue. We’ll be at our next competition (which might even be as early as next weekend) better than ever before!
The event was closed with an awards presentation, where Team 8346A The Lads received the Design Award once more to make it two weekends in a row. This prize is presented for a combination of a thorough engineering notebook and an insightful interview with a panel of judges.
We can’t wait to get going again - let’s win some more awards!
